Petunia (or Toonie, as
she is know casually) is Bianca's sister,
Tortie's second kitten that summer of 2007.
Petunia was more independent of her mother
than Bianca was, so we never really got a
clear look at her. We thought she was gray
striped, so I decided to refer to her as
"Pedro". When trapping Tortie's kittens,
both had initially entered the trap cage,
but "Pedro" managed to escape as the door
closed. It was over a week before we saw the
second kitten again, then only from a
distance. While trapping Brownie's litter,
we got a two-fer, and assumed we had two of
the younger kittens. However, when we saw
the gray kitten with white socks next to
Bianca, it was obvious that this was the
elusive "Pedro", as it was a little larger
than the younger kitten. Apparently, after
being rejected by it's mother, this kitten
had joined the others to play. After
determining we had another girl (and another
dilute calico/tortoise shell), we decided to
call her Petunia, since she had been
observed rolling around in a window box of
petunias on the deck.
Petunia has a very gentle soul, and the
prettiest green eyes. Before she comes up
for attention, she always pauses to the side
and will tap you with her paw, then gaze
questioningly at you as if to ask "Got time
for me?". Of course, I always do. |
