Odessa is a beautiful,
long-hair silver tabby cat, today. As a
kitten, she came up on our deck with her
mother, Brownie, and her brother and
sisters. One Saturday in June 2007, she
approached the glass sliding door, and
peered inside. At that time, she was just a
fuzzy fluff-ball, and I started calling her
"Otto", assuming she was a he. Once inside,
we discovered our mistake and changed her
name to Odessa.
Odessa, or "Dessie" as she is often called,
was extremely bashful, hiding behind my
treadmill all the time. But I noticed that
when I would try to collect her for vet
trips, every time I touched her, she would
begin to purr. So I made a daily effort to
pick her up and pet her at least once or
twice a day, eventually supplementing the
petting with treats. My plan worked so well,
that I've created a monster. Odessa insists
on laying between me and my keyboard several
times a day, and I have to pet her and
scratch her head. She even likes to be
combed, which is good considering the length
of her fur. She doesn't hide anymore, unless
there are strangers in the house. |
